Hi all, A simple process of renewal of licence has become a problem for me as after making all the necessary payments and being issued with a temporary licence was told that I have to wait for 5 working days to receive the licence by mail. Now it has been over 10 working days and after religiously checking the mail every day and not receiving it I have called the RMS what used to be called RTA and they say they have issued it already and if not arrived they will just issue another one. What I am worried about is how did they miss my licence which they sent earlier as it is effectively a proof of identity and has my name, dob and address. Some one with a malicious intent could if they wish misuse it. Do you think that I should report it to the cops... I do buy merchandise over the net and almost always they indicate when they have dispatched something by mail but NSW RMS does not inform about any progress and they do not even issue any tracking number. I would have been happy to pay a little extra to have them mail it out in express and or registered post — but I'm really disappointed that the Government agency shows such a lack of respect for such an important document. We could completely move to a digital format through an app on mobile phones and not have to carry these licences but the process employed seems completely counter productive, resource intensive, high cost, introduces unreliability, places greater strain on staff to provide greater communication on such a simple matter and lastly when things go wrong potentially identity theft issues no one is effectively held accountable. Hi CuriousDad, Ok, I'm actually not jumping-up-and-down about it — lol I have been a victim a few yeas back of thousands of dollars worth of charges on my credit card apparently for a limousine service and had a lengthy process to dispute it and that was stressful. I do not want that to happen again. Specific to this issue is that RMS says that they have already dispatched it but could not tell me when or any details. They believe it would have been mailed out within the 5 working day period but I certainly have not received so it is only logical to ask the question where did it go? Sure they have said that they will issue me another one but the question is what about the one which is out there with my name, dob, address and my photo — clearly these can be misused by someone if they have the ill motivation. AFP website says that a missing Driver licence is a serious concern for a potential identity theft. So my thoughts for posting it on wp was to know if this has happened to anyone else and how frequent a problem is this and what other people have done about it in the past and would they report it to the cops. Ok sure, I guess I was excited and wanted to change the whole driver licence delivery process... I'm definitely not anxious and do not have an anxiety problem... However, personal remarks with a veneer of sarcasm are neither helpful or constructive for an open dialogue. People lose licenses and mail all the time, but very few become victims of identity theft. Stop worrying about identity theft, it happens very rarely. I'm sorry to hear that. Every year, a small percentage of the population is the victim of crime, but despite what ACA and Today Tonite would have you believe, by taking a few simple precautions, you can greatly reduce your risk and most people are barely affected by serious crime. Although stressful, in the end, I'm sure you got all the charges reversed. The world is not an ideal place, but Australia is not as scary as TV makes it out to be I know, I watch a lot of TV. Can you imagine living in Syria at the moment? Now they have real problems to worry about. The fear of crime is often worst than the real risk that crime will actually happen to you. If you don't mix in criminal circles, and you take a few simple precautions, your real risk of crime is very low. I watch the Melbourne News and there is usually not more than 2 stories per day of people being the victims of serious crime. That's in an urban area of 4 million people. What you really should be worried about is getting in your car and hitting the road every day. Those are probably some cost saving, but is not efficient, definitely not efficient to the customers. Efficient is to try solve the customer's need in one go, so they don't have to come back again, so they don't have to make a phone call to follow up especially when all you get is to speak to a computer, or force to wait 20 minutes , If there is a way to renew online, then fine, post it, if we have to visit the RMS, there is no excuse to go backward.
